About
The Heathy Visions SAFE{teen} program is focused on relationship. We relate to teens where they are by talking about where they’ve been. We do our homework, but we don’t babble on about data, charts, and graphs. We believe real change takes place in relationship, so that’s what we do…Relate. The Healthy Visions program empowers teens in three ways:
Lean the Issues – we teach about sex, dating, marriage, technology, pregnancy, abortion, adoption, self-image. You name it. We believe there is no isolated issues here. So we address them all.
Recognize behaviors – there are clear cut behaviors that lead to the consequences we want teens to avoid. This part is crucial and this is where we spend most of our time.
Understand Consequences – this is where the “data” and those “statistics” come in handy. We don’t neglect that stuff-it’s important. We want teens to know the severity of this stuff, but we understanding the consequences alone is not enough to empower healthy habits.
The SAFE{teen} program focuses on the following aspects of teen safety: Healthy Relationships, Positive Self-Image, Responsible Technology Usages. We use a very simple model for the way we teach. Learn, Recognize, Understand, and Avoid. Learn why these concepts and principles are important. Recognize the risky behaviors that lead to the consequences. Understand the consequences, their severity, and the long-term effects. Avoid the risky behaviors, not the consequences. We try to get teens to recognize the behaviors that lead to the consequences and learn to avoid these behaviors. The consequences are so severe that, we believe, once they are realized, chances of pulling out are slim.
